A bit about us...

SuperCarers is a platform to connect families with qualified, vetted independent carers in their local area.

Our mission is bold, but simple. We want every family to be able to access high-quality, affordable and personalised home care, enabling dependent loved ones to lead fulfilling lives at home for as long as possible. Our country’s care system today is broken, and we can’t think of a more important problem to solve. By using technology, we can reduce the cost of care significantly, while still ensuring the carers are paid fairly for their hard work. This in turn makes the caring profession a more attractive and sustainable option, helping to address the high attrition rates seen today.

SuperCarers was set up by brothers Adam and Daniel Pike, who grew up watching their mother struggle to find good quality care for their grandmother. Launched in November 2015, with an advisory board including the former Head of Strategy for the Care Quality Commission, an ex-Minister for Social Care and the country’s leading expert on Adult Safeguarding, our team of 20 (and growing!) have helped hundreds of families around the country find care for their loved ones. We are about to enter an exciting and ambitious growth phase, fuelled by a £3.8 million Series A investment round led by Mobeus Equity Partners.

About the role...

We are looking for a talented frontend developer to help us deliver a great app for customers and carers to manage care together.

We run an agile process and believe that developers should be enabled to do what is right for the business. We work in two-weekly sprints, deciding at the start with product managers what is the priority for each sprint. We decide as a team on the difficulty and approach we should take, and allot a number of points for that sprint based on our previous velocity. During a sprint we run daily standups, and believe that anyone should be able to pick up any tasks, according to their abilities and interests. We generally work in epics and will put these together as a team, gathering requirements and breaking it down into tasks. Then you will have ownership of any individual task that you pick up, taking through development, testing, code review and deploying to staging and production, although we encourage helping each other out with this process. Depending on the size of the task, this cycle is typically a few hours to days long. We emphasize making small, frequent deployments, where possible, and our CI/CD pipeline is optimised for this, with pull request testing and automated docker container publishing.

A bit about you...

You will be working with the rest of the Product team to deliver a beautiful, functional, highly usable app. Good communication skills are vital to this in order to find solutions that enable us to deliver everything to the highest standard.

You will be self-motivated and able to see a feature through from design stage through to production, QA and snagging. You will put emphasis on testing at all stages of development. You will be a fast, independent learner. We expect you to be easily able to pick up concepts or technology that is new to you, although we are always here to assist with your learning. You will also be dedicated to continuous improvement, both of your own skills, the features you deliver, and of the quality of the codebase.

Key skills and experience:

  • Experience developing React applications
  • Some knowledge of modern Javascript including ES2018
  • Turning designs into accurate, functional components.
  • Unit and integration tests of features.
  • Good HTML/CSS understanding
  • Fetching and processing data from APIs
  • Close attention to visual details and the ability to implement them precisely
  • Comfortable working in an agile environment

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Redux, Redux Sagas, styled-components, Flow, Webpack and Babel
  • Python programming
  • Knowledge of GraphQL
  • Knowledge of web accessibility best practices

What's in it for you..

We are based in Old Street Works, in a spacious brand new office, with much-coveted standing desks. You will be provided with a top-of-the-range MacBook Pro (weird touchbar thing optional) and any other technology you might need to do your job. We support developers to be able to occasionally work from home, but prefer to have you in the office if possible. We offer a budget for a wide range of self improvement tools, including online and in person courses, as well as a few days a year to put that learning to use. We embrace the startup culture and the CEO has a desk just like anyone else. Everyone has time to help anyone else in the business, and we ask just that you do the same.
