Product Design @ Wave:
Our Product Design team crafts intuitive and enriching experiences for all in-app products on web and mobile, as well as related touch points. We are a collaborative group that is always looking for ways to hone our human-centred design practices and processes. We are made up of embedded product designers who are supported by people managers, content strategist, UX researcher, and creative lead.
About this role:
The UI/UX Front End Developer is responsible for the technical elements of the user’s experience. You play an integral part in defining and developing robust, easy-to-use, and reusable components, patterns, and flows. Working closely with members of the product design team and the rest of the engineers, you use your solid understanding of the relationship between technology and design to improve quality and pace.
Here's how you'll make an impact:
- Design, build, and evolve high quality, accessible UI components that enable web and mobile Product Designers and Engineers to build unified customer experiences.
- Collaborate closely with Product Designers participating in design reviews where you evaluate proposed solutions from a framework perspective and advocate for systematic and reusable thinking.
- When updates to the design system are proposed, lead the investigation into the product implications across Wave and in the design system itself, circling back with Product Designers / Product Engineers and iterating until both our and our customers' needs are satisfied.
- Own and continually improve our design system and testing infrastructure, so we can unlock greater efficiency in making product-wide updates safely and with confidence.
- Design, build, and maintain highly reusable React components (written with Javascript, Typescript, SCSS).
- Adhere to WC3 guidelines and style, structural, coding, and documentation best practices.
- Facilitate effective handoff between the Product Design and Engineering teams working towards a streamlined workflow and ensuring timely design and code reviews for updates.
You'll thrive here if you:
- Have strong technical knowledge with human-centred design and front-end development experience (SCSS, Javascript & Typescript, and React).
- Are comfortable developing User Interfaces in a component-based approach and styling with modern CSS techniques.
- Have worked in an environment that leverages systems thinking and research practices to test and learn.
- Have a growth mindset, and are not afraid to stretch yourself outside of your comfort zone to take on new challenges.
- Act as an ambassador and subject-matter expert (SME) for front-end development best practices.
- Experience with React animation libraries is an asset.
- Experience with back end development is an asset.

With 20+ years in digital product and service design, Sara has experience across several industries, and design environments including startup, agency, and enterprise. Sara holds a Master in Design focused on Inclusive Design. She is passionate about creating frictionless experiences that are valuable, desirable, and remove barriers for the full range of human diversity including abilities. Her creative outlets extend from digital to the physical where she enjoys painting art and upcycled furniture.
- Recruitment Partner: Camila Louzada. In the last 10 years, Camila has recruited in 4 different continents, led Vancouver’s biggest tech recruitment group, ran a consulting business helping tech companies grow, and often acted as a mentor and speaker. When she isn’t matchmaking amazing people to their dream jobs, Camila is either playing Brazilian music with her band, travelling the world with the Olympics, snuggling with her puppy, or making musical duets in Wonderland with her little girl named Alice.
