Samsara

Who We Are

Samsara, founded in 2015, is a leader in Industrial IoT and our mission is to increase the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of the operations that power our economy. Our solutions combine hardware and software to bring real-time visibility, analytics, and AI to operations across various industries. Samsara’s fast-growing team is headquartered in San Francisco, with offices in San Jose, Atlanta, and London. Our team has raised $930M from Andreessen Horowitz, General Catalyst, Tiger Global, Dragoneer, AllianceBernstein Holding LP, Franklin Templeton, General Atlantic, Sands Capital Management and Warburg Pincus LLC.

At Samsara, we welcome all. All sizes, colors, cultures, sexes, beliefs, religions, ages, people. We depend on the unique approaches of our team members to help us solve complex problems. We are committed to increasing diversity across our team and ensuring that Samsara is a place where people from all backgrounds can make an impact.

About the role:

Site Visibility is Samsara’s newest product, focusing on a computer vision-powered site visibility solution for industrial, warehousing, and office environments. Our mission is to improve worksite safety and operations by providing better visibility into what's going on in customer sites. Our first product is an ML-enhanced video recording device that is installed on-prem, stores camera footage, runs the footage through deep learning models, and allows users to view video camera streams and ML insights via a cloud dashboard and mobile application. We can help users solve common pain points in their day-to-day operations, such as allowing users to search for and instantly find when a warehouse accident occurred, or enabling users to identify who is not wearing an orange safety vest in hazardous areas.

Over the past year, we’ve launched our product, grown sales, and hit critical milestones indicating strong product market fit. This year, we plan to grow our team substantially to scale our core product and build out entirely new feature areas. We plan to double our team in the next few months alone; we’ll channel our efforts towards launching floor plan and mapping features, powerful reporting, and other exciting product frontiers. Cameras are only a small piece of the Connected Sites equation - we know everything from the badge readers, heavy duty equipment, or even just the forms and reports that our customers use everyday are critical to us delivering the most value across our mission statement: safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

As a Senior React Native developer at Samsara, you will help lay the foundation for entirely new areas of our mobile application. Mobile is core to our product; our users heavily rely on our Sites application to review footage in the field, perform remote installations, and stay up-to-date on important events. As a technical leader on the team, you will both lead projects and mentor other engineers on technical design and code quality.

In this role, you will be building:

  • A dynamic bitrate mobile video streaming experience using WebRTC.
  • Mobile-focused search features to explore live and historical video data and events.
  • Seamless camera discovery and remote camera configuration workflows on mobile (in collaboration with our firmware team).
  • Prototypes of entirely new feature areas as we experiment with new products and integrations.

An ideal candidate:

  • Has 4+ years of relevant industry experience in software development
  • Has experience shipping high-quality mobile features to users and developing with React Native
  • Enjoys understanding our users and owning features that improve their workflows and day-to-day operations
  • Enjoys working collaboratively with developers of different focuses (infra, firmware, vision, etc)
  • Experience working with React or Typescript
  • We use Golang for our backend, Typescript and React for our web client, GraphQL to fetch data from our backend, and React Native for our mobile app. Direct experience with these technologies is not required.
