Front End Engineer (Remote)

Pantheon powers the world's professional websites. Our multi-tenant, container-based cloud platform enables businesses to run mission-critical Drupal & WordPress websites. Developers, Marketers, and IT professionals can instantly scale in response to unplanned traffic spikes, without upgrading VMs or clusters. Large enterprises use Pantheon, including Intel, Cisco, Arizona State University, and the United Nations.

We value teamwork, humor, and hard work balanced with solid social time together throughout the day. We're enthusiastic participants in several open-source communities and have real relationships with many of our most active customers and that's where you come in.

Pantheon is currently looking for a motivated, proactive, and energetic individual to join the company's engineering team as a full-time employee that thrives in the confluence of interface design and software engineering.

Your primary responsibility will be to collaborate with a small team that brings together product, design, and engineering expertise to create and implement awesome, efficient user experiences. This will require your previous experience orchestrating JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and APIs to meet product requirements, achieve design goals and strive for technical excellence.

Generally, you will be involved in:

  • Build cloud-based tools for developers and all professional web stakeholders

  • Work with our design team to build a design system and component library built in React and documented with Storybook
  • Work with our product team to explore new features and improve existing code
  • Use your expertise to advocate for performance, accessibility, responsiveness, API design
  • Work across teams to share architecture, evolve engineering standards, improve testing approaches, mentor peers, and celebrate our wins.
  • Support production operations and providing front end insight on platform issues.

Engineering at Pantheon operates in small mission-focused teams that are tasked with large business problems and armed with a fully capable set of engineering skills. They dig in, understand the problem and find the optimal path to success. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute at all levels of the stack -- and we mean the kernel tweaking to feature design kind of full-stack.

We’ve got depth and breadth across the technologies we use to run the Pantheon platform at scale. You’ll have many opportunities to pickup and apply new skills and gain professional experience with some of our existing use of Cassandra, MySQL, Redis, Node.js, Python, Ruby, Golang, C, Chef, Amazon SWF, Amazon S3, Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, Docker, CircleCI, and more.

  • Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks like React or Angular
  • Experience with semantic markup and deep knowledge of CSS
  • Experience building, maintaining and iterating on web applications employing backend APIs
  • Experience with Unit, Functional, Integration and End-to-End testing strategies
  • Experience with front-end build pipeline tooling such as Webpack, or Rollup
  • Experience with GraphQL, especially using Apollo Client and Server
  • Excited about working collaboratively, with different teams, on different parts of the product
  • 2+ years of front end web application development experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Bonus Points For:

  • Full-stack development experience
  • Mobile and/or responsive implementation experience
  • Accessibility principles
  • Front-end performance profiling and optimization
  • Familiar with good system design patterns and HA/scalable architectures
