Posted 3 years ago

At tiney we're building a brand new childcare experience, a product that will help to unlock the potential of every child. Our aim is to accelerate children's development through play and learning, and help families access high quality childcare through a world class app. We are on a journey to build a product to help millions of people - this is where you come in.

We're looking for someone to help build a trusted, safe and delightful product so that we empower our tiney home leaders, improve outcomes for families and unlock the potential of every child. Our app is built using React Native, with a NodeJS microservices backend and we're looking for our seventh full time engineer to build key feature developments and help us build out our automated testing capabilities using React Native. Our tiney app is our core product, it covers everything our tiney homes need to get started and run their business - from initial training, all the way through to getting their first parent customer and managing their payments, messaging and educational requirements long term.

You'll be joining a small but mighty team of 36 who've all come from tech startup and early years education backgrounds, and you'll be a part of our engineering and product teams. Our engineering team has a variety of different backgrounds: we have a non graduate; someone who studied economics; a recent bootcamp grad who worked in marketing; those who've only worked in startups; those from big companies. What's important to us is that you enjoy learning new things.

We work in project-based sprints that tie into our company quarterly goals and work closely with everyone across the company to make sure we're laser focused on building a product that delights our users. As any startup, there's lots to do and you'll be wearing many different hats so we're looking for someone who loves ambiguity and continually wants to do and be better.

What you'll be doing day to day

  • Writing front-end in React Native and NodeJS on our backend
  • Building features for our app, developing new internal tools, or improving our billing platform
  • Participating in design and code reviews
  • Scoping new requirements with the company and our users
  • Monitoring performance and continuously iterating off the back of user feedback

You should apply if

  • the work we're doing at tiney excites you!
  • you want to be involved in building a product that has the opportunity to change lives for thousands of children and childcare providers
  • you have built and launched React Native apps end to end (ideally commercially, but not essential if they can show a deep knowledge of and passion for the framework)
  • you’re keen to learn more about infrastructure engineering and tools like Vault, Terraform and CircleCI
  • you have experience with either TypeScript, Google Cloud Platform, Firebase or asynchronous, event-based architectures
  • you love working on challenging, open-ended and sometimes ambiguous projects

A child who wants to learn doesn’t care about gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, or any of the other things that sometimes divide, and neither do we. We hire people from a wide variety of backgrounds, not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because it makes us stronger and gives us all a better chance of unlocking the potential of every child.
