About the Job
We are looking for a React developer to lead the frontend development of our applications. The current focus is on the Forest Planner platform, with the web application in testing and development of the UX of the mobile applications underway.
As Folarity is an early-stage startup, you will be expected to take on a range of responsibilities and help define our frontend strategy as we progress. Ideally, you will also help to develop the UX experience and make sure it fulfils our customer’s needs, overcoming challenges such as usage in remote locations with no signal.
About Folarity
Folarity’s mission is to develop technologies to increase the forest cover of the UK to help tackle the nature and climate emergency. We’ve received grant funding from Geovation Scotland and recently received a second significant round of grant funding from another body to further development of the platform.
We’re currently developing Forest Planner, a tool to help forest managers, contractors and landowners plan new tree planting projects and manage their existing forested areas. Beta testing of the web platform is currently underway with forest managers.
Responsibilities
- Working directly with the Folarity founder to define the vision of our products
- Produce a robust architecture to maximize future flexibility
- Develop the web app and mobile apps to provide a great user experience
- Setting up testing frameworks to make the project as reliable as possible
- Exercise independent judgement about the scope of work
- Participate in the creative process and interact with potential users
Qualities/Attributes
We are looking for candidates with the following skills:
- 2+ years of experience of using React and React Native in a commercial environment
- Typescript
- Experience of GraphQL
- Self-learner, independent, and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving
- Strong communication skills
Bonus points for experience with:
- Geospatial systems
- Producing apps with offline modes
- Gatsby - used on our basic public landing pages
- Mapbox.js
- Python - we use Django to build our GraphQL API
- UX experience
- MaterialUI
Details
Start Date: 1st November 2020, can be pushed back for an exceptional candidate
Job Type: Permanent
Location: UK based, working remotely
Salary: £35,000 - £40,000
