Freelance Front-end Engineer

This is an open position for a freelance front-end engineer to join our team. Our wider team is currently composed of 4 other front-end engineers + Associate Director of Engineering, a 6 person UX and Digital Design squad, and a 2 person Data/Analytics team. As a member of our team, you’ll build user experiences, launch products, and support the marketing efforts.

You'll work closely with our other Front-end engineers, as well as our UX Team and report directly into our Associate Director, Engineering. Furthermore, you'll work alongside Brand Marketing, Digital Growth Marketing, Content, Operations, and Customer Experience teams to bring new creative initiatives and digital products to the world. Some interest in UX/UI, digital product management, marketing, and e-commerce is important for finding success in this role.

No college degree is necessary and we do hire autodidacts and bootcamp grads. However, at least 2 years of real-world experience (Shopify/ecommerce, in particular, would move you to the front of the line) is necessary to be considered for this role.

REQUIREMENTS

    • Intimate knowledge of: HTML, Javascript, React, CSS, SCSS or LESS, jQuery, AJAX, Git & Version Control, Webpack, NPM, ARIA, BEM, Performance (Browser painting/re-flows, Chrome performance tooling and Chrome network analysis).
    • You are passionate and care about code quality and understand the importance of proper documentation.
    • UX/UI chops - you know what good design and interaction looks and feels like and can call out inconsistencies, problems with responsive layouts when looking at a mobile and desktop design, etc.
    • PHP, Ruby on Rails, and Node.js - you are comfortable with at least one and willing to dive into others if need be.
    • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and ability to write semantic HTML that is highly accessible + any interactive elements in an accessible manner
    • Experience with eCommerce in general is very helpful -ie: Product Feeds (Feedonomics would be great), Google Analytics, A/B Testing platforms such as Optimizely/Dynamic Yield/Google Optimize/VWO, Facebook Pixel, Customer Data Platforms, Sendgrid or other ESP, any other digital marketing tooling, implementing Analytics software, and Technical SEO best practices is a big plus.
    • Shopify knowledge moves you to the front of the lines. Especially advanced Shopify implementations and parts of the platform such as:
      • Storefront API
      • Metafields
      • Script Editor
      • Shopify Flow
      • Using tags to power personalized Front-end experiences
    • Any familiarity with JAMstack / headless commerce is a big plus
