Mercato is marketplace empowering independent grocers – a $131B annual category in the US – to finally have an online presence. Their platform gives merchants access to a nationwide delivery network, marketing tools, customer analytics, and customer membership programs, while customers can access to their favorite stores and incentives / offers that are otherwise unavailable.

Mercato was founded in 2015, inspired by experiences Bobby Brannigan had growing up working at his family’s independent grocery store in New York. He realized first-hand that the 40,000+ independent grocery stores in the US lacked the technology and infrastructure to keep up with the modern demands of consumers driven by e-commerce experiences.

Today, Mercato has acquired hundreds of thousands of customers as well as thousands of merchants (two-sided marketplace), all while maintaining an NPS score of 70+ (benchmark for grocery is 39). This is the 2nd marketplace built by Bobby Brannigan, who previously founded ValoreBooks while in college (2002), which reached $100M in sales, and was acquired by SimpleTuition in 2012.

About the Position

We’re seeking an experienced developer with a strong grasp of front end technologies including HTML & JavaScript. As our business grows, so do the complexities of our platform. You would help us develop and scale our web application, improving the user experience while also helping to develop new features and products. Our engineering team has a strong grasp of the business and works very closely with the product team. We have a strong influence on the prioritization and specification of the product pipeline, influencing what gets built and when.

What You’ll Do

• Work with the product team to understand the company vision, brainstorm new features & develop timelines
• Assist in establishing a new front-end architecture fully built in React
• Work with the back-end team to spec out API contracts and implement new front-end features and improvements

Qualifications

• 4+ years experience developing scalable web applications
• Strong abilities in HTML, Sass, & JavaScript
• Experience building React apps on top of a service oriented architecture is a plus
• Experience architecting large-scale, high-performance front-end applications
• Experience in UI and UX design
• Experience in responsive design
• Working knowledge of Java, MySQL, AWS, & Linux is a plus
• A love for food and interest in the grocery space
