Principal Frontend Engineer

Atlassian is looking for an experienced and hardworking Principal Frontend Engineer to join the Jira Issue Experience team in Sydney. With over 400 million impressions monthly, the Jira Issue Experience is the most-viewed page in the Jira Cloud suite of products (Jira Software, Jira Service Desk and Jira Core). Our team is looking for an innovative Principal Frontend Engineer to help accelerate delivery of customer-facing features and internal capabilities. Using your programming expertise and deep understanding of modern web architectures, you will craft the technical direction that will ensure the Issue Experience performs at scale as we bring on thousands of new customers and explore new product directions in our Cloud offering.

Work across a number teams with outstanding developers and designers to build simple, beautiful and consistent user experiences for our web apps. Our work directly powers all Jira Cloud products to deliver the best possible user experience, and we truly believe in a platform-centric approach to adding new features. We are always growing, learning, and adapting, in and out of the office. Our teams embrace peer feedback, and we ask hard questions and challenge each other to constantly improve our work. We are dedicated and team oriented.

On your first day, we'd love for you to have:

- Strong depth of knowledge on Javascript fundamentals, with extensive React experience in building and scaling modular, stateful UI component systems

- Experience in engineering software systems of medium-to-large scope and complexity

- Proven collaboration skills, with the ability to inspire change across multiple teams and crafts (e.g. design, product)

- Experience in developing and maintaining reusable, performant and accessible frontend components

- Experience with modern testing tools (e.g. Mocha, Jest, Sinon, Cypress)

- Experience with continuous delivery (e.g. progressive deployments, feature toggles, experimentation)

- Enjoyment of sharing knowledge with teammates, and working collaboratively when you need help

It's great, but not required, if you have:

- Expertise in frontend performance metrics and monitoring

- Experience in building design systems

- Familiarity with GraphQL

- Familiarity with progressive web-apps
