Localised is local-first ecommerce. We have reimagined how brands and shoppers transact across borders, languages, currencies and cultures. With our own all-inclusive global ecommerce platform, we rapidly design, build, operate, optimize and market highly localised country-specific ecommerce sites in foreign markets for coveted brands. We help brands go global by being local. We are based in New York City, Toronto, London, Warsaw, Bucharest and Hong Kong, and are proud to have our clients include Crate & BarrelUrban OutfittersAnthropologie, Boden, Everlane and more. We are what brands expanding globally do next.

We're looking for a Front End Engineering Manager. You will lead our Front End Engineering team and scale it from 3 to 5 engineers over the next quarter. Working closely with Product and Design, you and your team will implement user interfaces that will be used by millions of shoppers worldwide. You have a high bar for code quality, maintainability, site latency and engineering efficiency; your passion lies at the intersection of writing great code, staying updated on the latest in front end web technologies, and coaching a high-performance team.

More specifically, you will:

    • Build, mentor and lead a distributed team of high-performing Front End Engineers (across Toronto, London and NYC)
    • Lead the technical direction of our Front End Engineering; this means you'll own things like planning, backlog grooming, promoting a culture of TDD, managing frequent releases, etc.
    • Level up our team and engineering practices, bringing a mix of industry best practice, new ideas and technical excellence to the team
    • Think proactively about challenges we may face around resourcing, scaling our technology and architecture, adapting to the changing landscape of front end web, etc.
    • Live the Localised values, both as an engineer and a manager: you will be brave and challenge the status quo, lead with empathy first, take accountability & responsibility for your work, and collaborate with your team to focus on maintaining high standards at all times

About You:

    • You identify with our ambition and our purpose
    • You love to love where you work and were built for startups
    • You've been a Front End Software Engineer, but most recently have been managing a team (although you're comfortable rolling up your sleeves and digging into the codebase)
    • You have worked in a high-performance Engineering environment, and you can describe why the team was high-performing and what you did to contribute to that culture
    • You have an advanced understanding of Javascript, and are comfortable with modern web frameworks like React
    • You have strong opinions rooted in experience but are collaborative, willing to listen and willing to try new ideas
    • You have built single-page applications (SPA's) and worked with serverless architecture; even better if you've worked on content management systems or multi-tenanted applications
    • You thrive in a fast-paced environment, you excel at building roadmaps that contribute towards a longterm product vision, and you are comfortable working closely with teams across Marketing, Product and Design

What to Expect:

    • After applying, you'll receive an email with all of this info, so feel free to skip it now.
    • Application Review - you'll hear from us within 48 hours of applying, guaranteed. We won't ghost you, and your resume doesn't go into a black hole.
    • Phone Call - you'll have a quick call with our Director of People (Brett) to learn more about you and share more about us.
    • Interviews - you'll meet our Director of Product (Steve), members of our Front End team, and our Founder & CEO (Kris). We'll dig into your engineering & management skills, and give you a chance to learn more about our business, team and culture.
    • References & Offer - we do 2 reference checks on all hires at the time of offer — as a heads up, these will ideally be someone you have reported to and someone who has reported to you.
