Front End Engineer

Syft

What is Syft?

Founded in 2015, Syft is an on-demand marketplace helping Job Seekers and Employers have 100% control and choice over shifts worked in real time. We want to enable Job Seekers to control their schedule, choose their work and enable them to work as many or as few shifts as they want. The platform enables Employers to book reliable, rated and verified staff immediately. At Syft, we’re harnessing innovative technology to revolutionise the flexible staffing sector.

Your Job

You’ll be a member of a cross-functional team responsible for delivering ideas to production. Ideally you are comfortable making changes outside of the front-end — our backend is mainly Ruby and Postgres — but you’ll primarily be exercising your front-end skill set while working closely with Product and UX to improve the Syft ecosystem. You’ll also have opportunities to help backend and full-stack developers level-up their front-end skills.

About You

You strive to make a positive  impact on the world around you through your work. You’re flexible and focused on collaborative approaches to problem solving — and highly motivated to deliver those solutions with high quality and velocity. You’re also committed to learning and continual improvement.

We’re looking for passionate and determined people who share our enthusiasm to positively impact people’s lives through frictionless access to work.

Desired Skills

  • Strong JavaScript experience (typically 2+ years, including asynchronous programming, closures, and ES6)
  • Strong HTML/CSS experience (typically 2+ years, including layout, specificity, and cross browser compatibility)
  • Strong experience with the React ecosystem, including Redux or similar patterns is preferred, but we are willing to consider applicants with a strong track record in other client-side javascript frameworks, who wish to transition to React
  • Experience in writing applications in a declarative or functional paradigm
  • Experience with A/B testing and data-driven methods
  • Understanding of performance bottlenecks in modern JS apps
  • Experience and understanding of how to represent data and solve problems in code: A computer science degree might be useful, but not required.
