The Who, What, Why and Where

Twilio is growing rapidly and seeking a Front End Design Engineer to lead the development of a design system for support on Flex, our programmable contact center solution.  We are seeking a user interface designer and developer with a strong product mindset to help us reinvent the agent and customer support experience at scale. This role requires a creative  software engineer with solid computer science fundamentals and skilled in the design and development of Web components. In this role, you will collaborate with our product and engineering teams to create world-class support user experiences that showcase the value of Twilio products for our customers.

Who?

We are looking for a talented interface designer who can develop rich, high-fidelity Web mocks and functional components, and work closely with our front end engineers to customize these components to serve real-world, customer-facing use cases.  You are:

  • Design focused, and take pride and ownership of user interfaces that will create a frictionless experience for Twilio employees and customers.
  • Customer-focused and have empathy for our users’ needs and businesses enabled by the Twilio platform.
  • Well versed in UX principles in order to design and optimize complex SaaS products for usability.
  • Inspired to close the loop between Web design and code, ensuring consistency between visual and code assets
  • Comfortable to act as a liaison between product, engineering, stakeholders and other internal designers.
  • Passionate about modern web application development, familiar with established industry standards, and curious about new frameworks and technologies.
  • Knowledgeable with HTML, CSS and Javascript frameworks
  • Familiar with Javascript full-stack development and NodeJS is a plus.
  • 2+ years of experience in building front-end Web user experiences, preferably using frameworks like React, Vue, or Angular.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.

What?

As a Front End Design Engineer, you live the Twilio Magic by:

  • WEAR THE CUSTOMER’S SHOES: You think backwards from a customer perspective and continuously iterate and improve on our products to raise the bar.  You care deeply about user experiences and love intuitive, fluent, and responsive interfaces.
  • BE AN OWNER: Own the execution of your work from design through delivery of UI components.  You are passionate about code quality and demonstrate ownership across the software design and development lifecycle.
  • WRITE IT DOWN: Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication - ensure that complex software plans, designs, and implementations are communicated clearly and effectively to our engineers and stakeholders.
  • DRAW THE OWL:  Identify new visual concepts and approaches gathering input from  internal and external sources. You design for usability, and establish a coherent design system for a complete SaaS product.
  • EMPOWER OTHERS: You are comfortable working in high-performing, self-organizing teams and trust yourself and others to get the job done on time and on quality.  You embrace agile development and working in a distributed team.
  • NO SHENANIGANS:  You strive for inclusion and transparency, and thrive in a cross-functional environment collaborating with engineering, product managers, and stakeholders.
