For some more detail, check out our press coverage in TechCrunch, Forbes or CityAM.

We want to build ever more extraordinary digital experiences for our users and we need your help: come on board and join our growing engineering team in Lisbon busy changing the automotive landscape.

Our Engineering Team & Culture

How we work

We thought you may be curious about our ways of working:

  • We work in cross-functional agile product teams.
  • We release continually with multiple production deployments a day.
  • You can expect to work on a wide variety of technical solutions from user-facing applications to internal tools.
  • We take pride in the code we ship and aim to do all the right things (testing, code reviews, “leave it better than you found it”, etc) but we take a pragmatic approach
  • While we love having the team in the office because it facilitates the sharing of ideas and insights, you can work from home some days if you prefer.

Some of the technologies we use:

We currently use Ruby on Rails on the backend and Javascript (React.js, Redux.js, ES6, Webpack) on the frontend. Some of the services we use are Redis, ElasticSearch and our primary datastore is Postgres. We are also exploring Elixir.

Where we want to go:

We want to build a robust architecture with a focus on flexibility and resilience. We are exploring various ways to gather and report on user experience in an effort to drive product features within each team.

How we interview

Our tech hiring process is simple and fast. It starts with a phone call where we learn about each other, followed by a take-home challenge. If you do well, we will invite you to meet us in person. Your interview will be centred around a follow-on discussion of your test and we’ll also look for evidence of strong communication and team skills. We promise no brain teasers! You’ll meet ~4 people incl. engineering leaders, fellow individual contributors and product managers. We will aim to get back to you the day or two after your interview with a final answer.

Our Company Culture

We recently asked Droverians what they love most about working here and 60+% of them wrote “the people”! We are proud of the amazing team we have assembled across London, Lisbon, Bucharest and Paris. While each office is unique, we all share a few fundamental commitments:

  • We’re proactive and take ownership of problems. You will never be micromanaged here. Instead, we give you the space to learn and grow, even if it means making a few mistakes along the way.
  • We’re a cohesive unit and are here for each other if times get tough... and they sure do sometimes - startups are no walk in the park.
  • We cherish feedback, whether praise or constructive criticism because it’s the only way to get better at what we do.
  • We judge ideas on merit rather than who they came from - how much impact have is only up to you.
  • We all have our own interests, yours doesn’t have to be cars.

We are looking for a Javascript frontend developer who wants to change mobility for good. You will work, with your team-mates, to ensure that our products and systems maximise the business value they deliver. You will help to ensure that our architecture offers great performance and a modern, and fun coding environment for our developers. You need to have strong JavaScript skills and experience of working with product and design to craft bespoke web and mobile applications. You should be an advocate for writing clean, well-tested code.

We believe that developers should be building products that users love, guiding and mentoring others and adaptable to change.

  • A world-class team made up of serial entrepreneurs and alumni from companies like Google, Facebook, Uber, Lyft, WeWork who are eager to meet you!
  • Competitive salary
  • Delicious breakfast treats from Padaria Portuguesa, healthy snacks every day & free lunch on Fridays
  • Generous parental leave policy for both primary and secondary caregivers
  • 25 days’ holiday plus all public holidays
  • Private health & life insurance
  • Discounted gym membership
  • A whole host of restaurant and retail discounts
  • A beautiful, centrally located startup office near Avenida
