We’ve designed a hassle-free experience that allows people to store and retrieve their belongings on-demand, so they can skip the whole schlep-to-a-storage-unit thing. We pick up your stuff, haul it to storage, and deliver it back when you need it. Simple as that.
To support this seamless experience, we built the industry’s first fully integrated system, from back-end routing to warehouse logistics, and a consumer app complete with a digital photo inventory of stored items. Our superior operations, tech, and talent enable us to be infinitely more convenient, affordable, and user-friendly than traditional self-storage. In just over 6 years, we’ve become a top-5 consumer-rated storage company in NYC, and expanded to 24 major cities in North America.

MakeSpace is the technology solution for physical storage. We are changing the way people think about their belongings, and saving them from ever having to visit a storage unit again. We are taking on the $40B storage industry. We've grown to 90+ employees with a product and engineering team of 18 people. We're backed by top-tier VCs and a joint venture with Iron Mountain, a publicly traded leader in ops and logistics.
The day-to-day:
Build performant and maintainable React-based user interfaces for current and future customers.
Tech lead architectural projects like designing our on-site SEO strategy or implementing server-side rendering.
Work on growth and acquisition—the pre-conversion parts of the funnel. You'll collaborate with our product, design, and marketing teams to figure out how we can use the web to answer users' questions, tell them about MakeSpace, and get them to sign up.
Write, test, document, and deploy code that ensures the integrity of our operations and user experience.
Your experience:
Experience using React or other modern front-end frameworks to build component-based user interfaces
4+ years of professional engineering experience, with some full-stack experience and some tech lead experience
Thoughtful about UI/UX and skilled at communicating those thoughts in a positive, collaborative way
Thorough HTML5 and CSS3 knowledge
Experience with Python (especially Django), MySQL, Docker, or Ansible is a plus
A passion for collaboration, and a desire to learn, teach, and grow beyond the current edges of your skills

The Interview Process:
You will begin with a 30-minute phone call with our recruiter where we'll share more about MakeSpace and the details of the hiring process, learn from you about your background, and listen to the high-level goals you want from your next role. After this we do a one-hour build-a-component interview with our hiring team which can be done onsite or over video. We finish the process with an onsite interview where you meet members of engineering, product, and our CTO.
